Dear Parents,
Well – here we are at the start of half term – and some very well deserved days off await us all.
I have been really proud of everyone since we all came back in September; everyone has had to adapt and take on new practices – and the best group at doing this were of course the children – they have been resilient, positive, adaptable and mostly cheerful! They have followed the rules, reminded staff of the rules AND got back into the swing of learning. They have been fantastic even in these last couple of weeks when tiredness has started to set in. They thoroughly deserve a great half term break.
You as parents and carers have also been patient and respectful of the different processes we have had to put into place. As recommendations have changed we have been responsive and you have gone along with updated information – we thank you for this. Even those of you who have had to access a test for your child have been patient and understanding. Because of all this we believe that we can streamline the staggered starts and finishes after half term; the updated times are:
|
Arrive between |
Collect between |
Surnames A to H |
8.50am and 8.55am |
3.10pm and 3.15pm |
Surnames I to Z |
8.55am and 9.00am |
3.15pm and 3.20pm |
Finally, I would like to publicly thank all the staff who have continued to provide inspirational learning experiences and have created consistent, safe and happy classrooms for your children. This has allowed me to focus on the changing guidance and recommendations. I am sure you will join me in thanking them too.
I wish everyone a happy and restful half term, whatever you are planning.
We look forward to welcoming all families back at the updated times as above from Monday 2nd November.
Hello from the office!
Thanks very much to everyone who responded so quickly to the updated Data Sharing Consent forms. If you haven't managed to do it yet, please have a look at the home screen on the app. At the bottom of the page you will see the data sharing consent form. If its not there, try refreshing the screen (pulling down on the screen usually works) and it should appear - if not, drop me an email and I'll send you a copy.
Order forms for your child's portrait photgraphs have been sent home this week - if you haven't seen yours yet (and it's not buried in the bottom of a bag!) let me know and I will get a new one sent out to you. Order forms should be returned to me by 20th November at the latest please! Huge thanks to Ed Tyler for doing such a great job in less than perfect weather conditions!
It's Bonfire Night just after half-term and our fantastic kitchen team will be celebrating with a special menu on Thursday 5th November - check it out below...
Thanks again for your continued support and co-operation.
Have stupendous half-term! (I am planning on at least 48 hours of sleep...zzz)
Mr Berry (aka Wayne)
Class One have been doing lots more learning over the last few weeks.
We have been sorting using buttons and creating patterns using beads and pictures. We have used harvest fruit and vegetables to print, looking carefully at the shapes made.
We went for a walk around the school grounds and used our senses to find signs of Autumn. We found piles of leaves that had fallen from the trees, shiny conkers, their spikey cases and also some bright berries. We heard the leaves rustling and could smell smoky bonfires. Annabelle found a newt and we even saw some birds migrating to warmer countries.
In PE we have been practising lots of different jumps. The children made up routines in small groups and performed them to the class.
We have used the train track to make letter shapes and have been practising writing the letters c o a t l and i using the cursive formation.
We made playdough balls and compared them by size and weight. Some of us even mixed the playdough to see what would happen when we mixed blue and yellow!!!
In RE this half term we have been thinking about which people are special and why. We think Jackie, our kitchen assistant, is very special because she serves us our lunches. She kindly agreed to come in to talk to us about everything she does. We thought about questions to ask her and we listened carefully to her answers. We put all the information she gave us in a floor book and made her a card to say thank you for everything she does.
The children have worked extremely hard during this long half term and are looking forward to a much deserved rest over the half term break.
In Class 2 we have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. The children have followed a step by step process to recreate Van Gogh’s painting called The Starry Night. We have also drawn our own Sunflower paintings in the style of Van Gogh. Our display outside of our classroom is full of self-portraits with Class 2's lovely smiley faces! We have also drawn pictures of pumpkins and gourds to celebrate harvest festival.
CLASS 3 REPORT & PHOTOS BY CHIEF REPORTER OZZIE GALE
Class 3 are doing fossils. They were looking at fossilised animals and creatures. They were also dropping water on rocks to see what they turned into.
CLASS FOUR REPORT & PHOTOS BY CHIEF REPORTER OZZIE GALE.
In Class Four we have been painting the pictures we did the outline of. We have painted different textures and colours - blues, browns and pinks. We have done our own interpretations of the famous picture "The Great Wave" by Hokusai.
Earlier in the month the rest of Class 4 completed the Bikeability Course - here are a few photos...
The law regarding taking holidays during term time has been updated to reflect the current COVID-19 situation. The basic rules haven't changed (see below) - leave of absence requests can only be approved if The Head Teacher deems the circumstances to be exceptional. The main difference is that, given that travel to many countries involves quarantine restrictions being applied following return to the UK, schools are now obliged to ask for details of destination when any Leave of Absence request is made. This is so that we can ensure that remote learning is available for children during any period of quarantine. If you have any queries regarding the rules on Leave of Absence please contact me in the office: [email protected]
STRATFORD FOODBANK - THANK-YOU!!
A BIG Thank You to everyone who donated food to our harvest collection for Stratford Foodbank. We had three big boxes full which were collected this week. The Foodbank were very grateful indeed for your generosity, especially in these difficult times. It is really great to see our school community can still pull together to help others in need.
